How to Make Your Mark

Roll Up Your Sleeves

Filed under: Better Life — Herman Najoli @ 6:30 am

Making a mark means engaging and participating in society. When I was a kid there were many moments, particularly on weekends when we were at our country home, when my dad would find me just lazing around the house and, in an effort to inspire me to work around the house, would say, “Don’t just stand there son; do something”. This became a motto for me in my personal life. I’ve always enjoyed rolling up my sleeves and doing something that would make a difference for people around me.

Most people fail to make a mark because of an unwillingness to roll up their sleeves and jump into the action. Most people are standing at the corners of life’s intersections waiting for someone to come by and give them a free handout. If you will make a mark, a significant mark, you have to be willing to roll up your sleeves and get into the game of life. Rolling up your sleeves means being ready to serve whenever called upon. The ultimate measure of humility is a person’s willingness to serve when there is no immediate personal payoff for the service. Life offers us many opportunities to serve daily. We must always be ready to roll up our sleeves and be of service.
